Tucked against a quiet mountain lake with direct access to the Appalachian Trail, Dockery Lake is one of the best-kept secrets in the Dahlonega area. Eleven walk-in tent sites sit under a canopy of hardwoods — no hookups, no generators, just vault toilets and fire rings by the water. The gravel access road off GA-60 is manageable by passenger car, and the first-come-first-served policy rewards early Friday arrivals. No swimming in the small lake, but the AT trailhead is steps away.

Camper Notes

If you want to fall asleep next to a mountain lake and wake up on the AT without driving to a trailhead, Dockery Lake is your spot. It's the rare campground that feels remote but is only a short drive north of Dahlonega.
