South of Standing Indian along a network of gravel USFS roads, Ammons Branch and Bull Pen Road offer some of the most secluded dispersed camping in the Nantahala area. Pull-off sites appear along the road — flat clearings under hardwoods with no facilities, no fee, and no other people most weeknights. An SUV or truck handles the road best, though passenger cars can manage in dry conditions. No cell service, no toilets, no water — just you and the woods.

Camper Notes

When Standing Indian campground is full on a summer weekend, this is where the overflow goes — free, first-come, and quiet enough that you might not see another camper. It's one of the easier-access dispersed options near Franklin.
