The anchor campground of the Nantahala National Forest, Standing Indian sits along the Nantahala River with 84 sites, flush toilets, hot showers, and direct trail access — including the Appalachian Trail. The river runs through the campground, the facilities are strong, and the setting is the kind of mountain valley that reminds you why you drove out here. Paved road all the way in, RV-friendly but no hookups. Reservations required and it fills fast from spring through fall.
